You will always find a warm welcome at Bardsey Primary School!
Bardsey School is a community primary school catering for children from rising 5 to 11. The school is situated on Woodacre Lane in Bardsey, to the north of Leeds and is set in extensive grounds in open countryside with beautiful rural views. Most children come to our school from the immediate village communities of Bardsey and East Keswick, some from neighbouring Scarcroft, Shadwell and Wyke and a few from further afield – Wetherby, Linton and north Leeds.
At Bardsey Primary you will find a highly dedicated, caring team committed to providing a secure, happy and stimulating environment within which each child will develop to the best of his/her ability. Our most recent and excellent OfSTED Inspection (October 2002) commended the teaching as a strength of the school and deemed the Leadership and Management of the school as outstanding. As a team we are committed to self-evaluation and continually strive to improve our practice in an effort to raise standards for all children and across all aspects of school life. The curriculum we deliver is broad, balanced and differentiated to meet individual needs at an appropriate level of challenge. We believe in enriching the curriculum with a wide range of first hand experiences and extracurricular activities. The children benefit from a huge variety of off-site visits linked to the curriculum and also work regularly with visitors in historical role, professional theatre, musical and dance groups.
A recent Artists in Schools project brought in a working sculptor and involved the whole school in a range of three dimensional work. We worked with Opera North on a project linked with Mozart’s "Magic Flute" and with RJC Dance, choreographing our own dance to share with other schools within our local area and culminating in a performance at Leeds City Varieties.
This year we have achieved the National Standard of Activemark Gold, a prestigious award which recognises our strong commitment to sport and physical activity within and outside the curriculum. We have strong links with Boston Spa Sports College and other sporting groups such as Leeds United, Leeds Rhinos and Tykes. Through these links the children and staff benefit from the support of a wide range of professional sport coaches who work throughout the age range of the school to enhance the PE curriculum and extra-curricular activities.
Our children achieve to the best of their abilities and we are proud that Bardsey Primary School scores in the top 5% of primary schools Nationally for Value Added, a measure of achievement beyond expectation for all children of all abilities. We have a positive behaviour policy, celebrate good behaviour as well as achievement in areas of curricular and extra-curricular activity. We operate an inclusive, "open door" policy.
Every child and adult in our school is valued as an individual. Through our ethos and across the curriculum we promote healthy lifestyle choices. This is born out by our achievement of the Leeds Healthy Schools Award this year.
We are committed to fostering a partnership between home and school and welcome the contribution parents and carers can make to school life. Our Parents Association works actively to support the school with many fundraising and social events and our excellent Governors are proactive in the life and work of the school. Links with the community are excellent and include strong links with Bardsey Playgroup and our local Churches.
Please contact the school on 01937 572612 for a copy of our prospectus or to arrange to visit the school so that you can see first hand what we have to offer and whether we are "right" for you.
Should you choose Bardsey Primary School for your child we hope that it will be the start of a happy and successful partnership.
