Clubs and Societies in Bardsey
Bardsey Mens Debating and Literary Society.
The Society, founded in 1937 is open to all men who have an interest in debate and literature. The membership is made up of men from all walks of life. This friendly and not ‘over seriously minded’ group await the pleasure of meeting new members. The Societies season runs from September to March every 2nd Tuesday. Bardsey Embroidery Group.
The Group meets weekly on Monday mornings from 10am to 1pm in the Committee Room of Bardsey Village Hall. Members chat, do their own work, participate in group projects and have occasional day schools. Visits are arranged once or twice a year and an interesting programme of outings for this year are planned.
Bardsey Horticultural Society.
The Society has a regular programme of interesting talks covering a wide spectrum of horticulture and related subjects. Plant sales are held during May and the Annual Show takes place in September. Both events being held in the Village Hall. At least one visit to a Garden or Show is planned every year. Annual subscription is £3.00 with donations welcomed. Bardsey Mothers Union.
The Mothers Union meet on the 2nd Thursday each month at 2.15pm in Callister Hall. Further details can be obtained by contacting Anne Pearson on 01937 572243
Bardsey Wives.
Anyone can come and join. Bardsey Wives meet in peoples houses for coffee on the 4th Monday of the month at 8 pm. Further details can be obtained by contacting Anne Pearson on 01937 572243.
Bardsey Playgroup.
The Playgroup is for local children aged between 2½ and 5 years. The Group meets weekdays, term time only at Callister Hall, Woodacre Lane Bardsey LS17 9EB from 9am to 12 Noon. The Playgroup is Ofsted registered. Further details can be obtained from Mrs Gill Nobbs at Callister Hall.
Bardsey–cum-Rigton Womens Institute.
We meet in the Village Hall at 7.30pm on the second Wednesday of each month and we are a thriving Institute with over 60 members. Our very hardworking Committee provides us with some fascinating, hilarious and sometimes thought provoking speakers. As part of the Golden Plover Group, which includes East Keswick, Roundhay and Scarcroft WIs, we amalgamate for socials, lunches, garden parties and the annual carol service. We also organise a ramble about once a month to which husbands/partners are welcome. We are a friendly Institute and new members or visitors are always very welcome. Bardsey Bridge Club.
Started in 2003 and has gone from strength to strength since then. We meet in the Callister Hall on Thursday evenings from September through to April each year. Doors open around 7.10 pm to start playing at 7.30 pm sharp, finishing around 10 pm. Cost is £1.50 per player which includes tea, coffee and biscuits.
There are various playing abilities in a very warm friendly atmosphere, so if you are a beginner or an experienced hand all are made very welcome.
With an average of 5 tables per week we mostly play duplicate bridge but this is varied with trophy nights, party nights and other fun ways of playing this card game. Open to anybody not just Bardsey residents it is a good place to play and learn.

Bardsey Walking Group.
Established in February 2004 by Jim and Maureen Baines. Its purpose is to promote a range of various walks across the region on the first Sunday of every month, meeting at Grange Close at 10am. The walks are usually no longer than 8 miles and last 3 to 4 hours. All walkers usually bring refreshments and dogs are very welcome.
